City Limits and its sister
organization, Center for an Urban Future, relies
on several interns as integral parts of our staff.
Work areas include reporting and writing, fundraising,
nonprofit management and policy research. Please
see descriptions for each internship position below.

Editorial Interns
Editorial interns at City Limits Weekly work 16 to 30 hours a week, assisting senior staff with research, reporting, and newsroom support duties. This is a rigorous program for those committed to a career in journalism. Interns are encouraged to pitch and write their own stories, which vary from short items (300 to 500 words) to longer articles (500 to 1,000 words). Some internships include more writing, while others focus on in-depth research; please make your preference clear. Published clips and knowledge of New York City a must. Areas of interest include: government, housing, criminal justice, education and economic development. The internship is unpaid, but interns are paid freelance rates for longer published stories.

City Futures Intern
Intern will assist the Executive
Director of City Futures with research, logistics,
event planning and administration. An abiding interest
in public policy research is critical. The applicant
for this unpaid internship should also have excellent
interpersonal and communication skills and be possessed
of a sincere interest in fundraising and other development
work as well as nonprofit management generally.
City Futures is the parent of both the Center for
an Urban Future and City Limits magazine.
For three decades, City Limits has consistently
served the housing, community development and the
nonprofit worlds through informative and original
stories from the razor-sharp perspective of journalists
who dig deep to find the hidden truth. And the Center
for an Urban Future is celebrating 10 years as a
fiercely independent policy institute that employs
a journalistic approach to policy that is fact-driven,
non-partisan and accessible to a wide audience.

Business Office Intern
Business Office Interns will work closely with the Director of Business Affairs and the Executive Director to streamline the daily operations of this ever-evolving organization. Specific duties include marketing and distribution research, preparing promotional materials, filing, and database maintenance. Candidates must be able to pay high attention to detail. Proficient in Microsoft Word. Excel and Access a plus. 10-15hrs/week. This is an unpaid position, but can be used for credit.

Policy Research Intern
The Center for an Urban
Future is a New York-based think tank that fuses
journalistic reporting techniques with traditional
policy analysis to produce in-depth reports and
workable policy solutions on the critical issues
facing our cities. Founded nearly 10 years ago,
the Center has become one of New York City's most
respected policy organizations, known for credible,
fact-based research and solutions-oriented studies.
The sister organization of City Limits magazine,
the Center's research focuses on economic development,
higher education and workforce development.
The Center seeks an intern
with experience in journalism or public policy
research to assist staff in researching a variety
of issues impacting New York City, primarily on
studies related to economic development and workforce
development. The internship is a minimum 20-hour
a week commitment. Responsibilities include extensive
phone interviews, Web research, attending policy
meetings and writing. Other duties include coordinating
meetings with government officials, maintaining
the Center's database and assisting on all reports.
