CHILD PROTECTIVE SPECIALISTS--NYC Administration for Children’s Services (ACS)--The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) is currently seeking individuals with strong communication, writing, organizational and observational skills for: Child Protective Specialists. Child Protective Specialists perform a wide range of social service duties to ensure the safety and well being of all the children of New York. Child Protective Specialists PROTECT children by investigating more than 50,000 reports of abuse or neglect each year. Child Protective Specialists HELP families in need through counseling, referrals to drug rehabilitation programs and other preventive services. Starting salary is $38,046 a year. After an 18-month period of training and field placement, this salary increases to $44,060. Candidates for these positions MUST have a Bachelor’s degree. Major course of study must include a combination of 24 semester credits in the following fields (12 credits must be in one discipline): Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Criminal Justice, Cultural Anthropology, Nursing, Early Childhood/and or Elementary Education. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: ACS seeks candidates who are bilingual possessing proficiency in speaking, writing and reading foreign languages. Equal proficiency in English is a MUST. SENIOR POLICY ASSOCIATE--Gay Men's Health Crisis, Inc.--The Senior Policy Associate will work to increase the availability of and access to affordable, quality health care for people living with HIV/AIDS. Specific responsibilities include monitoring legislative proposals, administrative policies and practices that impact access to and the availability of quality care for people living with HIV/AIDS, with an emphasis on the design, financing, implementation, and delivery of public and privately funded health care, drafting policy statements, letters, legal briefs and other documents that respond to legislative proposals and administrative practices, participating in and supporting the efforts of existing health coalitions that advocate on behalf of people living with HIV/AIDS, supporting of coalition efforts includes: managing coalition databases, attending meetings and drafting position papers and other policy documents on behalf of coalition, designing educational tools that explain changes in the public and private programs that serve people living with HIV/AIDS and engaging in direct public policy advocacy on behalf of people living with HIV/AIDS at the city, state and Federal levels. Qualifications: Master's degree in public policy, public health, public administration or finance, or a related field required or significant equivalent experience. Proven experience in public policy advocacy for vulnerable populations, preferably on behalf of people with serious illnesses and disabilities, including HIV/AIDS is necessary. Specialized knowledge in areas including the design, financing and delivery system of public and private health programs, including Medicaid, Medicaid, AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), and private health insurance strongly preferred. Position requires strong analytical and writing skills that should be demonstrated upon application for the position.
