CASE MANAGER/TENANT INCOME AND SERVICES SPECIALIST--Bronx Pro Real Estate Management, Inc.--Tenant Income and Services Specialist/Case Manager
Under supervision of the Director of Resident Services and Supportive Housing Initiatives:
• Perform annual income certifications as required by government agencies and programs (i.e. LIHTC as administered by DHCR, HPD and HDC). Responsibilities include calculation of income and assets, and obtaining documentation from applicants, tenants, employers, financial institutions, etc.
• Assist development staff in the marketing and leasing up of newly constructed or renovated apartments. Tasks include updating waiting lists and log of prospective tenants, follow-up correspondence, phone calls, etc.
• Perform annual apartment inspections to ensure that housing is properly maintained and interview tenants to identify needs, interests, and obstacles to improving self-sufficiency.
• Refer tenants to various service providers or government programs and track progress.
• Meet regularly with property management staff to review tenants in arrears and implement eviction prevention programs.
Successful applicants should be detail oriented and enjoy personal contact with clients, including meeting with tenants in their homes. The NYCHP provides comprehensive high-quality medical, dental and behavioral health care services to homeless and medically underserved children, parents, and youth throughout New York City, in state-of-the-art medical mobile units with electronic patient records. In addition, special programs have been developed which focus on the prevention and treatment of childhood asthma, domestic violence, mental health services, the management of child abuse and neglect, nutritional services and health education initiatives.
Qualifications: M.D., New York State license; board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry; DEA license. Candidates for Executive Director must be strongly committed to developing low-income people into agents for change, and be able to nurture CVH as a membership-led power-building organization. The E.D. will serve as the chief organizing and political strategist for CVH, guiding campaigns and creating alliances that enhance CVH’s leverage. The Executive Director will also continue the implementation of a strategic plan of expansion into electoral work, multi-issue organizing, statewide organizing and national and international movement building.
The E.D. must ensure the financial stability of the organization and implement an aggressive strategy of institutional and individual fundraising; maintain an effective staff as well as positive relationships with CVH’s Board, funders and other stakeholders. Qualifications sought include: five years experience in a high-level management position in community organizing/social justice with significant supervisory responsibilities, strong written and oral communication skills, and fundraising skills. Understanding of, and demonstrated success in, the New York political context is a plus, as well as the ability to speak Spanish.

MANAGING DIR, POLICY, RESEARCH & COMM HEALTH--Gay Men's Health Crisis, Inc.--Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Managing Director, Public Policy, Research and Community Health will lead GMHC’s newly created division of Public Policy, Research, and Community Health. The Managing Director will drive GMHC’s public policy agenda with an intentional focus on the social justice issues and disparities in access to health care that fuel the AIDS epidemic locally, nationally, and globally. The Managing Director will provide vision and direction to the division, and will oversee the departments of Public Policy, The Women’s Institute, and The Institute for Gay Men’s Health, which total over 20 staff, 20 peer health educators, as well as interns and volunteers.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Developing agency positions on key public policy issues and formulating related advocacy strategies. Representing GMHC at relevant global, national and local coalitions, task forces and other forums and advocating for the agency regarding policy matters including conducting interviews with the media.
• Leading the three departments and creating new opportunities for advancing strategic public policy advocacy priorities and advocating for sound AIDS policies on the federal, state and local level.
• Initiating and maintaining communication with legislators and regulators to advocate for GMHC’s policies and to secure funding for HIV/AIDS prevention interventions and supportive services.
• Linking the agency’s community constituents to its public policy and advocacy work to effectively inform the Public Policy Department about the specific needs of the agency’s constituents.
• Overseeing GMHC Action, GMHC’s grassroots advocacy network, and the production of Treatment Issues, GMHC’s globally recognized newsletter.
• Overseeing policy analysis and policy paper generation about specific concerns to the agency.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration or Public Health, or related field, or J.D. is required, Ph.D. preferred. Significant proven experience in public health policy and direct lobbying required. Expert knowledge of federal, state and local legislative systems is necessary. Knowledge of HIV and health policies and related political and human rights issues, as well as legal issues, lobbying and public education strategies. Proven experience as a Senior Manager in a not-for-profit arena. Proven experience designing and developing successful grant proposals for program and research areas needed. Proven experience in program evaluation.
